Are you of your kid moving away to college? It’s a bittersweet moment for parents, and the beginning of a new chapter in a teenager’s life. How do you start planning and packing for a dorm room?
Your first step should be to hire a moving company to help you with the physical move, even if you don’t have much to move, you want to keep it safe during it’s travels.
Sheets and linens
Bed sheets, towels, blankets, bed spreads, mattress and pillow covers, laundry supplies, etc.
Trash can, storage boxes, a reading lamp, some shelves and pictures, hangers, etc.
A laptop, a mini fridge, a microwave, headphones for learning while it’s loud, a powerbank, extension cords, portable speakers. A TV will need to be approved ahead of time with the roommate and dorm rules.
Shoes, jackets, hats, pajamas, gloves, swimsuits, workout clothes– these are often forgotten.
Tissues, vitamins, medications, dental hygiene products, female hygiene products, soap, shampoo, brush, tweezers, razor blades, nail clippers, band aids, shower shoes, face creams and sunblock, etc.
Trash bags, window cleaners, food storage containers, dish soap, paper towels, rags, a bucket (a folding bucket will save space)
A bag – backpack, a messenger bag or a book bag, workout gear, an umbrella, and most importantly –let them know that whatever happens, you’re still there for them, just a phone call away. Anything they didn’t pack can be shipped or bought, it’s not the end of the world if they left something at home.
